Mosaic-x5 : what is the operating temperature?

Dear all,

we have a mosaic-X5 installed in a cabinet, the system is power by solar panels and the cabinet is exposed to sun. There are several other electronic systems in the same cabinet, they all measure their board temperature (far from their CPU, far from heating parts).

Usually, the temperature of the mosaic is 25-30°C above the other systems.

The question is (again) how hot is too hot ? as stated in the post below, the datasheet indicates an operating temperature range from -20°C to +85°C. However, the datasheet does not say if this temperature is the ambient temperature or the internal mosaic chip temperature.

Last week we measured peaks of 45-48°C for the ambient temperature and 78°C for the mosaic… summer is coming !

The idea is to shutdown the device when the temperature is too high in order to protect it from over-heating. We need a threshold for this, unfortunately the post below does not give an answer to the question.

So, should we consider the “operating temperature” as the temperature reported by the mosaic-x5 device or the ambient temperature ?

kind regards

The operating temperature is in reference to the board/chip’s own temperature…so it sounds like it is getting close!

Is hooking up a fan/cooling apparatus, heatsink, or other heat mitigation an option? I’ve seen some folks use a peltier device to power a fan in some areas with large temperature differentials to help
