I am trying to run the OBD-II to UART WIG-09555 to pull the data using the J1850 VPW protocol, the description says this board works with that protocol but i have not seen any reviews that says it does and the one review i did mention anything about this protocol and this board said it did not work with this protocol. has anyone been able to grab the J1850 VPW data using this OBD-II UART WIG-09555 board?
There are are a lot of reasons it might not work initially, I wouldn’t go off of one review (I found a post where they got it going here, might be worth copying their method)
The normal operation is:
J1850 VPW bus → STN1110 → decoded OBD message → UART
You send something such as an ELM327 request to the STN1110 and it handles the VPW physical-layer communication for you.
The STN1110 does, however, have a monitor command (ATMA). The STN1110 programming manual describes STMA as monitoring the OBD bus using the current filters and says it can monitor all messages on the OBD bus.
So here is a potential experiment:
ATZ
ATE0
ATL0
ATSP2
ATMA
where those commands correspond to reset, turn echo off, linefeeds off, explicitly select J1850 VPW, monitor the bus
I would try those before concluding that the WIG-09555 doesn’t support VPW
Looks like I’m getting connection to the board but I am still not able to get any VPW data.

Do you happen to have a scope you can use to monitor pin 2 to see if VPW data is present? You can also use a DMM…it should swing between 0-7v (a steady 0v indicates something else going on)
What actual vehicle model are you testing on?
I unfortunately dont have a scope and this is being tested on a 1997 toyota 4runner
i have now even made some code changes to see if i can get data from a can bus system (07 dodge Ram) that ive read that several people have had success with getting data and I am still not getting data. I think im doing something wrong or possibly got a bad board?
Well, that gives us something more concrete - Can you share a photo of the board’s soldering/wiring?
