Problem with the sample code for void

counter

I have copied and pasted the code to a working Arduino UNO . instead of displaying the count number, it shows

Counter = i,DEC Everything else I have tried works great - I simply cannot get this to work. The ability to display variables on the LCD is one of the things I use most.

By the way, this serial back pack board is excellent to use with the Arduino
