Order #000461769 Phil Spargo

Both the INA228 and the ADS1219 are not being found on the Qwiic bus.

I have power to the sensors, I’ve done a factory restore several times.

The only sensors found are the internal one on the datalogger (Battery)

I think that either I have 2 bad sensor PCB’s (probably not likely) or the data logger it self is bad.

Please help!

I don’t see either of those sensors on the list of supported devices?

I don’t either.

I thought that if it had a Qwiic connector, it would work. Feeling kinda stupid at the moment.

I need to measure voltage and current. Any ideas? Will the Tech team write drivers for these in the future? Are the sensors confirmed NOT working with the Datalogger?

They indeed won’t work :-/
Yes, the team still adds devices [SparkFun\_DataLogger/docs/relnotes at main · sparkfun/SparkFun\_DataLogger · GitHub](https://github.com/sparkfun/SparkFun_DataLogger/tree/main/docs/relnotes)

You can use most any 3.3v-IO MCU that has i2c and wire both sensors to the bus (Raspberry Pi, etc)…if you don’t have one already, I’d get one that has an SD card (or add a [logger](https://www.sparkfun.com/sparkfun-openlog-with-headers.html) to one)

I would note that both of those (INA228 and ADS1219) have a default i2c address of 0x40, so you’ll want to modify the jumpers on _one_ sensor board to change its address…[the INA228 is much simpler, you’d simply sever the A0 jumper to make its new address 0x41](https://docs.sparkfun.com/SparkFun_Qwiic_Current_Sensor_INA2XX/hardware/hardware%20overview#solder-jumpers) (and leave the ADS1219 set to 0x40)

It also might be a good idea to disable _one_ sensor board’s set of i2c pull-up resistors (sever the 2 small traces between the “i2c” jumper pads); I made a quick illustration of where you’d need to cut the traces (highlighted in green) on the INA228 (leaving the ADS1219 unmodified)

Then go through the rest of the hookup guides
[INA228](https://docs.sparkfun.com/SparkFun_Qwiic_Current_Sensor_INA2XX/hardware/hardware%20overview#ina228-and-ina237-digital-power-monitors)
[ADS1219](https://docs.sparkfun.com/SparkFun_Qwiic_ADC_ADS1219/hardware_overview/#ads1219-analog-to-digital-converter)
and you should be all set 🙂

Using the datalogger IoT, what sensors does Sparkfun have that will log voltage and current? That’s why I made the purchase.

Thanks!

Well, that part is hopefully some good news!

[ADS1015 4 Channel 12-bit ADC](https://www.sparkfun.com/sparkfun-qwiic-12-bit-adc-4-channel-ads1015.html#content-features)
[ACS73800 Power Meter](https://www.sparkfun.com/sparkfun-power-meter-acs37800-qwiic.html#content-features)

Are [both listed as supported devices](https://docs.sparkfun.com/SparkFun_DataLogger/resources/supported_devices) for the DataloggerIoT, so if those suit your project your could just swap them in instead

Is there a sample setup file for posting data to thingspeak?

I’m having issues with the “channel” . What is the correct format for entry?

Thanks!

No, but most any basic sketch should be compatible…I usually make a test sketch that just sends a bit of serial text output. Are you following this? [ThingSpeak | DataLoggerIoT Documentation](https://docs.sparkfun.com/SparkFun_DataLogger/settings/services/iot-services/iot_thingspeak#creating-and-connecting-to-thingspeak) (it covers basically everything we know about it)
