I am having problems with the WiFly Shield and my Arduino boards (have tried several with the same results).

For my test I am using the WiFly Terminal Example sketch from Sparkfun. I have modified the SPI\_UART\_cfg SPI\_Uart\_config with 0x60

to match my 14Mhz crystal.

On loading the sketch I get the standard output of:

WiFly Shield Terminal Routine

Bridge initialized successfully!

Auto-Assoc roving1 chan=0 mode=NONE FAILED

Auto-Assoc roving1 chan=0 mode=NONE FAILED

If I enter $$$ the WiFly responds with CMD and thats it. Entering more commands just echos the command text on the screen but no further response from the WiFly.

If I press reset on the WiFly shield I get:

WiFly Shield Terminal Routine

Bridge initialized successfully!

and still no output from the WiFly. The only output is echos of any characters entered.

I have done a hardware reset of the WiFly to factory settings but no change.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to procedure to solve this ?

Best Regards

Fixed!

The problem was associated with the Arduino 019 Serial monitor. Once I changed to using HyperTerminal everything started to work as expected.

If it was to do with the line-endings being (or, rather, not being) sent you should be able to change that from the new control at the bottom of the 0019 serial monitor window.

i got the xbee card in to add hoc mode by connecting a 3.3v wire from the arduino to pin 8 on the xbee card while it was mounted to the shield…once in ad-hoc you can browse wireless networks and select the WiFly-GSX-XX… then open telnet and connect to 169.254.1.1 2000… if you type in $$$ your get to the much needed CMD prompt

happy days

pic which might help
