Default in the configuration menu is meters, I can change to feet/inches and save. But when I go back to check the setting it is always set to meters. When I check the offline readings the bearings are off a little. How do I get it to stay on feet?
I believe you need to back all the way out of all menus after making a change & saving for it to persist
Which config method are you using? Here’s the CLI blurb with the save command Configure with CLI - SparkFun RTK Everywhere Product Manual
When you say you check the bearings, what are you doing exactly?
Looking at RMC sentences, inversing between RTK solutions, etc?
Remember there are (2) “main versions” of bearings & azimuths, similar to distances (Grid and Ground). Grid North (Flat projection map lines) is different from True/Geodetic North (Meridians converging at the pole),
If you are wanting to compare bearings to a Survey Plat, then you preserve the geometric shape by “adjusting” one line to match, and apply that small adjustment to all lines. That’s part of the Localization process. A similar adjustment is required to get your distances from Grid into Ground (scale factor), depending on how you saved the positions.
@navytech - Thank you for reporting. I’ve replicated your issue. The setting for ‘Units’ via the Web Config is not sticking, but changing the setting via serial menus is working. We’ll get web config fixed shortly. In the meantime, please change the setting using the serial menus.
You can track the issue here.
I can not get to the config menu using the terminal program, it is connecting but the menu does not come up when a key is hit. I tried a another pc, same problem
On the TX2, there are 2 COM ports that will show up. The COM port you need is identified as ‘PORT B’.
I have been using B, when I connect I get status messages but hitting any key does not bring up the config menu.
I can connect using blue tooth , and show it is set to feet/inches. When connect using wifi is always shows meters.
Most of plats I been working with are Grid North and I have using Bearing, mins and seconds.
I have using EPSG 6543 (feet) and the bearings are always off, change to EPSG 6542 which is meters and it was right on. That when I starting looking at the X2 settings. Distance has always been with in 1/2in.
What is good window based software for surveying. I have been using a expertGPS, it is pretty good but has limits.
Greg (@navytech), We use Autodesk Civil 3D, but that’s overkill for plats and a significant learning curve.
I’m not “up-to-date” on the latest software for plat work besides full blown CAD. Hopefully others will have some suggestions.
For Windows we recommend SurvPC or QGIS (there are many others, but these are the couple that we have tested/have a bit of documentation for)
