I am trying to put together the parts to make this Transmitter/Receiver. Has anybody had any experience putting something like this together? Does it work and is it pretty easy for a beginner to get up and running?

These are very similar to the 433MHz units SparkFun sell. You don’t build these but just buy the two modules.
You do need Manchester encode your data. The range is fairly limited but they can be made to work.
Search the forum for 433MHz transmitter or receiver for a number of discussions.
Do you happen to know where on their site they sell these kits? I looked for them and I wasn’t able to find any.
