I was pondering adding an external antenna for the Blue tooth and/or wifi that is built into my notebook. I was planning on mounting 1 or 2 sma connectors through my notebook so I can attach antenna’s if I wish too. I was also thinking I should probably have a small switch so I can use either the built in internal antenna or the external (or both???). Then I started thinking about it and noticed I could get an amplifier ic, and am now wondering if I could make the external antenna’s powered (also with a switch so if the notebook is not plugged in, I don’t drain the battery too fast).

The data sheet shows a evaluation circuit (but not for actual use?) that looks pretty simple, it practically has no external components. Any thoughts on how I would go about implementing this? I have a Blue tooth stereo receiver so I can listen to the music on my notebook while I am at work. I can get up and walk away from my notebook without having to remove my headphones first. It cuts out though in the outter fringes of some areas though. Even a slight boost would probably fix it, but then it occured to me I might as well try to go all out and make it work for wifi too, and add an amp circuit if it’s not too much trouble.
