Another AVR Pocket Programmer problem

What do you have to do to get this thing to work. I’m trying to do the second tutorial. I’ve checked everything plenty of times and I keep getting:

avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1

I’m running Windows XP with winavr

I’ve tried it using OS/X 10.4 with the same results.

my board is wire exactly as in the tutorial.

I’ve read every post on this board and tried several different configs. When I try to program, the reset pin is pulled low, which (I think) telling me that I am getting throught to the atmega328p.

From reading some of the other post, is it possible that this thing just doesn’t work? Why would they sell them?

thanks,

Scott

It’s finicky. Sometimes it just refuses to work. Frankly

I don’t know why they sell them either. IMHO a real black

mark for SparkFun.

Return it and get an AVRisp Mk2 or a Dragon. They cost more, but work without any problems. You also get debugging with the Dragon.
