Anything else needed? Cricket Stereo Amp & Bluetooth Breakout

Hello! I’m a real novice when it comes to circuits and audio. I bought a RN-52 Bluetooth Breakout board and the Sparkfun Noisy Cricket Stereo Amp to make a rudimentary Bluetooth speaker. I got one speaker hooked up as a test to the boards and I hear the music, but it’s quiet and there’s feedback. Do I need something else? I’m not expecting to blow the roof off my house but I was expecting a little more out of the one speaker. But the feedback / noice - it was awful. A loud, high-pitched hum that drowned out the music. Any advice would be greatly appreciated since I’m a beginner. Thank you for your time.

Sounds like you might have a ground loop or you’re picking up 60 cycle hum from the power lines.

Try powering things with a battery and see if the hum clears up.
