Arduino Automotive Shield

Any interest/feedback on a shield for the Arduino with switching power supply for 12V->5V, 16 digital inputs, 8-16 relay drivers, 6 dividers with protection for the A/Ds

Use an IO expander like the PCA9702 for inputs

Either ULN2803 for relay drive or mosfets (too bad I haven’t seen a mosfet version of the 2803)

I think this would be an awesome project, I’m a total novice, but I believe I could see possibilities for something like this.

Considering how noisy and electrical unfriendly an auto electrical system is, a board like this would be a great device to have.

brilliant idea.

like PLCs…

But please try to do that with Arduino mega.

because of outputs

i am currently building something like this whit the arduino and using some shftregister i can update 168 output 3000 times second so there are no need of using the arduino mega…

Any progress on this? This has some great potential!

Just to share my past experiences. Dc/dc could have strange behaviour due to EMI radiated and/or conducted from vehicle ignition.

Even if it is not a nice design, use a classic linear regulator. It will only power the arduino, peripherals and sensors. Power dissipation should not be a problem.
