Are sparkfun PCB's Open source?

I notice that they have the gerbers, But I’m wondering what is the purpose, am I allowed to get my own made or modify the layout and use it? what is the license / limitations?

Thanks,

T3

I believe that the rule is basically “feel free to use them, but not for commercial purposes”. I can’t imagine why they’d make gerbers etc. free for download if we weren’t meant to have a few copies of the boards made for our own purposes. At the same time, look at this part of the disclaimer about the Sparkfun Eagle Library:

http://www.opencircuits.com/SFE_Footprint_Library_Eagle

Spark Fun Electronics’ preferred foot prints. Not to be used for commercial purposes. We’ve spent an enormous amount of time creating and checking these footprints and parts. If you enjoy using this library, please buy one of our products at http://www.sparkfun.com.

Yes, our PCB designs are open source, sorta. We publish them under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 liscensce.

As sylvie369 said though, we always appreciate it if you contribute a little bit. Not required though!
