Attaching Garage door opener to rocker switch

Let’s start by saying I have very limited automotive electrical knowledge, and I have an 07 Jeep Wrangler. It does not have built-in garage door opener.

I grabbed a HomeLink opener modules (one of the universal things built into a Cadillac if I remember correctly) from the salvage yard. I plan on using two of the three buttons (one for my side door, one for the wife’s garage door). I’ve soldered wires to the contact points for two positions on the HomeLink circuit board that would normally be activated by the buttons. I plan to power the module (it has separate 12V power needs) using an accessory feed from the fuse panel, and to operate the module using a SPDT momentary/momentary rocker switch in my switch panel. My question is can I use an SPDT, or do I need a DPDT? It seems like the grounds for the switch can be share, with the hot activating based upon which side of the switch is pressed.

Any thoughts? If I’m in the wrong forum, please let me know.

Hi,

If you just want to turn ON and OFF the module using switch then you can connect the ground pin of the power source with the NO pin of the SPST switch and common pin with Arduino GND pin. For more detail you can visit this page.
