Better solder mask color for inspecting boards?

Do darker (or lighter) colored solder masks help to spot bridges?

(Sometime, with the fillet of solder, it’s really hard to tell where the solder stops, the board, and where the next pad full of solder begins.)

I can say from personal experience that you can’t see a thing on black solder mask. With green there is a good contrast between the mask applied on copper and the mask on the FR4.

Black soldermask does look very nice though

Anyway, I suggest a decent magnifier (eg jeweler’s loupe) with high magnification eg 10X. The extra magnification lets you diagnose open / short circuits that would be impossible to spot otherwise.

It does see counterintuitive.

I mean look at the contrast on that baby!
