Blue Soleil driver alternatives?

I’m looking for an alternative to the Blue Soleil drivers that came with the bluetooth dongle sold by SparkFun. The copy of v2.something would not run after installation on my XP system, so I rebooted and the system hung at the boot splash screen. After several power-downs, I finally got the motherboard to enter bios setup, then exited and rebooted to XP. Once XP was running, the audio output was reconfigured to use on-board sound instead of the installed PCI card. Just to ensure it wasn’t a fluke, I went through the whole operation a second time with the same results.

I’ve downloaded the Blue Soleil v6 evaluation drivers and they work fine, however I do not want to pay $30 just to communicate with an RN-41 module. All I need is a virtual com port or two to experiment with RS232 cable replacement. Anyone have any suggestions?

Many Bluetooth dongles work with the default XP Bluetooth drivers. Have you tried it without loading BlueSoleil? If that doesn’t work, Dealextreme has Bluetooth dongles for less than $3.00 including shipping. I ordered 3 of them and they work fine with XP’s default drivers.

BTW - I hate BlueSoleil driver software.

Thanks, phishguy. This dongle isn’t supported directly by Windows, so I’ll be looking for one or two that are. Just from my short experience, your dislike of BlueSoleil is understandable.

BTW, I did get the original v2.6 software to load and run, but not without some problems. I’ve at least been able to transfer data over a link to an RN-41
