BlueDongle Setup - 2 part question

Hi, hoping to get some help on this. I followed the tutorial but no luck.

------- PART 1 ---- SOLVED

I just bought the Bluetooth Modem - BlueDongle RS232. I did not have a RS232 port so bought a USB to RS232 cable. I connected it to the computer, connected the miniB usb cable for power, and then it appeared in my device manager as ‘Serial on USB (COM51)’
I then opened hyperterminal, created a new connection to COM51 with 9600, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and hardware flow control, then clicked ok.
I then tried to type AT into the terimal window, but for some reason i could not type anything. nothing i typed on the keyboard appeared in the window. i then did some searching and found out i had to go to properties, settings, ascii setup, and check next to ‘echo typed characters locally’.
once i did this i could type in the terminal window. so i typed AT but nothing happened. i tried again and still nothing…
i know the BlueDongle is supposed to be easy to use but as you can tell i cannot get it working.
So i am calling out for anyone to help me. im using windows XP, can anyone provide me with a simple set of instructions which they used to set up the bluedongle

------- PART 2 -----

i have a [BlueSmirf modem connected to an Arduino microcontroller that would like to send data to from my computer. previously i used a standard [bluetooth USB module which worked fine, but now im trying to use the [BlueDongle.

Has anyone done anything similar? or can anyone tell me how to detect/connect and create a COM port for my bluesmirf modem using the BlueDongle?

any help will be much appreciated… Thanks guys](http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=642)](http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=150)](Bluetooth Modem - BlueSMiRF Gold (Old-School) - WRL-00582 - SparkFun Electronics)

Ok, i figured out i couldnt get AT commands to work because i was in ‘data’ mode. i typed +++ and then could type AT and get OK response.

now i have the problem of communicating with my Bluesmirf modem connected to an arduino microcontroller. any instructions here would be appreciated.

previously, i used the [Bluetooth v1.2 USB Module from sparkfun which quickly detected any bluesmirf modems in range and could set up COM ports for communicating with them.

However, the bluesmirfs i have ordered recently do not allow communication in this way (outgoing COM ports will not ‘stick’ and disappear soon after they are created), so i was told to use the [BlueDongle instead.

So if anyone out there is using the bluedongle to connect to bluesmirfs and transfer data (on windows pc), please let me know how you do it - thanks!](http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=642)](http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=150)
