I am looking for camera modules to implement in my next project, but I am running into a dead end.
I would like a sensor that could offer still images of more than 6-8MP. I thought that it would be a bit expensive, but definitely doable. Especially considering the amount of smartphones and tablets that has cameras well beyond 10MP.
That’s not easy at all!! I have done some projects using Sony Block cameras for video, and here you’ll get a ton of functionality, but not in high res stills. Surprising…
I started digging and found out that sensors are quite easy to find, but documentation and interface options are NOT. Big manufacturers are hording their IP, and only accepts orders in the millions. Okay fair enough… There must be something I thought, but after a lot of digging nothing really came up.
One of the modules I have been looking at is the Sony FCB-MA130, that looks great. Interfacing it to at Raspberry Pi or some other board with a MIPI interface seems to be a nightmare.
So my question is: Have any of you had any luck with integration of 8MP+ still image sensors in your projects?
