Can you program an XBee using only a 3.3v FTDI Breakout

In an effort to save money, I was curious if it were possible to program an XBee using a [3.3v FTDI Breakout Board assuming one were to provide enough current for whatever XBee one were using as opposed to using the [XBee Explorer USB. I checked out the schematics and both seem to bring out the same pins from the same FTDI chip. Can anyone verify my logic as this would both be cheaper and allow for even greater flexibility in parts purchased.](http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8687)](http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9873)

I don’t see why not. The only thing the Explorer does different is provide socket to plug in the XBee.
