Maybe a kit which includes:

  1. 12v vacuum pump - ROB-10398

  2. Small metal canister (maybe like a 35mm aluminium film canister)

  3. Filter material - Brass sponge TOL-08964

  4. Teflon de-soldering tip

  5. Heat-resistant silicone tubing

  6. Tube fittings

Optional:

  1. Relay board

  2. SPST switch

BTW, I really haven’t mastered desoldering using a one-shot syringe type tool

and am wondering if I’m the only one who ‘sucks’ at this.

I have found a trick with de-soldering with a solder-sucker. I ADD a bunch of solder to make a larger target for the vacuum. The surface tension then pulls most if not all the solder away. Just trying to remove a small amount of solder is very difficult.

On through holes, raise the board to allow air to pass through the board easier.

But I agree that a simple/cheap de-solder station with vacum pump would be very nice.
