Choosing MOSFETS to control a brushless DC (BLDC) motor

Hi!

I was given a number of 50W, 48V brushless DC motors (very similar to these: http://www.applied-motion.com/products/ … -104-3-000), and I would like to build a driver board for them. They have Hall sensors, so my best option seems to be the A3932 predriver (http://www.allegromicro.com/en/Products … A3932.aspx), but that requires me to choose n-channel drive MOSFETS, and I seem to have forgotten my motor driver knowledge. Can someone tell me what specs I should look at, or point me to a guide, or even better, recommend a MOSFET (with the reasoning behind it)? I’ll be using the motor to drive a robotic arm.

If you have a suggestion for a BLDC driver chip with integrated MOSFETS, I’m all ears, but most of them don’t seem to handle the control via the Hall sensors.

Thanks!

Ruddick

I know that Microchip has a few App Notes discussing MOSFETs and BLDC motor drives.

Take to look on their web site.
