We are using your tutorial to make a small GPS location tracker save multiple coordinates in a KML file: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/gp … troduction
We are based in Ireland and are trying to find the components within EU suppliers however,
a user has raised this important point: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/gp … a%20charm.
Would you suggest to buy the RedBoard Qwiic instead of the RedBoad Turbo?
Many thanks.
That is correct, the RedBoard Turbo is a 3.3v based device, meaning it will not interface properly with devices requiring 5v especially on data lines. The hex converter on the SD card shield wants 5v to convert to a clean 3.3v for the SD card.
You could try using a product like this if working with the Turbo instead of the shield designed for use with 5v(clean 3.3v on SPI)- https://www.sparkfun.com/products/544 - See this forum post for more info - viewtopic.php?f=32&t=32037
I don’t see why one would specifically need a Turbo for this application. It is a overall more powerful board, but it is not as compatible with traditionally Arduino peripherals(shields) like the Redbaord Qwiic is.
If you essentially want to follow the tutorial with the same hardware just swapping the mainboards should do it.
I will look into the comment made by that user and see if we can fix any discrepancies in the tutorial.
