confusion with the MN5010

There are some discrepancies with what SFE lists as the stats for it and, apparently, some inconsistencies in the datasheet. (Datasheet [here)

SFE says it takes 3.3-5.5VDC but pulls 36mA @ 1.8V. The datasheet on page 4 at the top says 3.25V - 5.5VDC supply pulling 26mA. At the bottom of page 5, the datasheet says Vcc is nominally 1.8V.

Basically, what I need to know is if this module can work with a processor that uses 3.3V I/Os

Thanks :)](http://www.sparkfun.com/datasheets/GPS/MN5010HS_DS_080905.pdf)

It’s got an internal regulator, the chips inside actually work at 1.8V. The data sheet is confusing, I’d check with SFE about the safe signal levels. It implies that 1.8V logic levels are required.

Leon

leon, do you happen to know if the XMegas use 1.8 or 3.3V I/Os?

They will operate down to 1.6V.

right, for the operating voltage. what about the I/O level?

That’ll be similar. You need to read the data sheet.

for anybody who finds this thread looking for the same answer, they scale with Vcc. The threshold for high is .7vcc, the threshold for low is .3Vcc
