Creeping solar robot project

I’m looking to use a small 12V, 3W (.25amp) solar panel (or maybe two) to drive a precision gear motor (specs below) either directly, or with super capacitors. This is for an outdoor mobile very, very, slow creeping robot project that only has to move about 2 feet a day, on a very light chassis like a small push lawn mower. I’d like to avoid the complexity of batteries or Arduino/shields etc. Any thoughts/products would be appreciated.

Precision Gear Motor: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12115

Voltage: 6 - 12 Volts

Gear Ratio: 300:1

Stall Torque: 750 oz-in. (@ 12V)

Speed: 10 RPM (@ 12V)

No Load Current: 80 mA (@ 12V)

Stall Current: 1A (@ 12V)[/list]

Have you just connected the two ( solar panel, precision gear motor) to see if the motor runs ?
