What is the best way to get parts off of tape reels/tape segments and into storage bins when you are doing everything by hand?
I was thinking of getting some more 0805 passives, and everyone seems to sell them as tape. Any good trick for going from reel to a container?
(BTW - I don’t want to leave it on a strip of tape as it comes - I want it in my bins.)
I usually just peel off the plastic cover then dump the contents into containers.
Ya, I’m not certain what the issue is here. I’ve found you can peel the paper rather than just the nice little plastic cover if you want the parts to fall out easier.
If you are doing a whole lot, maybe dump them onto a big piece of construction paper then fold it to pour the parts into a bin.
I once saw a design for a little home-made gadget that stripped the plastic off and put the devices into a container as the strip was pulled through it. The automatic assembly machines must use something similar.

If you can find a surplus parts counter, you could probably rig it to automatically pull off the tape as well. Its just like feeding film with a handcrank
As for manual removal, most T&R has a plastic film over the paper tape (plastic film over vacuum molded plastic for bigger stuff). Simply pull back the film and the parts fall right out.
