Detecting charging state on the Battery Babysitter

Hi,

I am using the Battery Babysitter to keep the battery powering my Photon-based project charged and to provide data on the battery status, but one piece of information I can’t figure out how to get is the charging status of the battery, ie whether the battery is charging or not.

My system will be remote monitored and it would be great, to not only have the stats, such as voltage, current, etc, but also to know whether the battery is charging or not. Is there a way to get that information out of the Battery Babysitter? I read the hookup guide, the datasheet for the BQ24075 battery charger and couldn’t find how to do this.

Cheers,

B.

Hello B.

There isn’t a pad broken out on the battery babysitter to monitor charge status but you could tap into the CHG pin on the charger IC through the CHG LED. That pin should be low during charging and goes Hi Z when the charge cycle is complete.

Hi Chris,

how can I tap into the CHG pin on the charger IC?

Thanks a lot,

B.

You’d need to solder a wire to the CHG pin or a trace connected to that pin.

Check the schematic and Eagle files for the location.
