I don’t know what digi is like as a company in terms of quality and reliability but their more recent designs seem pretty innovative. I’ve got a mental note to consider them for my next wifi project.
in embedded WiFi, it seems to be Digi and Lantronix (WiPort).
maxstream brings to Digi products for 900MHZ SCADA and the ZigBee pursuits using, so far, FreeScale’s chips.
Do you know if it was worth what they spent on the company? Seems like a big chunk of change
half cash, half stock. 38M doesn’t seem that far off. its 4X '05 revenues and given that their products are square in a hot new area at a good pricepoint, I would expect good growth. also, it looks like a good fit for digi who has the channels to distribute their products. Most mergers flop but this one could work since the two groups have highly complimentary products but little overlap. max may have more radio expertise so that may be a bonus for the digi side.
one of the few VC funded startups that defined and executed a plan rather quickly, and got to positive cash flow fairly soon.
My dealings with the people in MaxStream has been good -they’re good folks in that part of the country. I’ve dealt with most all the module manufacturers in the ZigBee world and several of them are stereotypically bad.
I suspect that 900MHz SCADA is so far MaxStream’s bread and butter.
