DIY stencil from inkjet/laser overhead material?

I did a quick search but didn’t find any hits, might have been too general…

Anyway has anyone tried making stencils from inkjet or laser overhead projection materials? You would still need to cut the shapes by hand, but it might work for a low output hobby grade stencil.

Thought I would gather opinions before trying it.

Somebody on electro-tech-online.com has been trying out the Cricut, which is originally made for scrapbooking and crafts. It looks promising. You can use some 3rd party software to import the stencil template and it cuts it out.

I saw it advertised on TV recently, and I thought it might be useful for that sort of thing. However, I get free laser-cut SS stencils with PCBs made by PCB-Pool, which will work a lot better.

Interesting. I wonder if the Cricut will cut things small enough to make these overlays.
