Electronics Knob Needs To Hire Electronics Wiz For Wireless

Hi Folks,

I have no experience with electronics, but I have a project that I need some help with and am willing to pay for. Maybe you can help direct me how to hire someone to do this?

Basically I need a very simple person to person pager made. I expect it will use some 2.4ghz transeivers available form Sparkfun. I need them to be small and lightweight, battery powered, work very reliably in line of sight up to about 300 feet. The function will be very simple. You push a button and it makes the receiving unit vibrate (pager vibrater), or alternately make a beep. They would work in pairs, each able to page each other, and would have some channel changing ability (say five channels). I don’t need any physical housings (I can do that). I just need the electronics put together with batteries, and some programming done for a few basic functions.

So how should I proceed? Can you direct me to a resonable cost way to get this made? Or if you are interested, PM me with some costs.

Thanks. I look forward to hearing your suggestions.

Here’s an optimistic estimate of what you would need per pair (prototyping quantities , you can get it all at sparkfun ) :

2 x (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … cts_id=691) = 40$

2 x (any cheap 8bit microcontroller, person who’s doing it for you will probably have his/hers favorite ) = 10$

2 x (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … cts_id=674 battery charger IC) = 12$ (assuming you want rechargeable batteries, plus the connectors)

2 x (your choice of batteries http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/advanc … n=products ) = 20$

4 x (switches http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … ucts_id=97 ) = 1.4$

2 x (buzzer in order to beep http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … ts_id=7950 ) = 2$

or 2 x (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … ts_id=8449) = 10$

2 x (Power Supplies to charge it all http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … ts_id=8269 ) = 10$

2 x prototype pcb made @ batchpcb = 30$ (including the setup fee)

so you’re looking at ~ $135.4 worth of components (no shipping included) if you were to do it yourself and get it right the first time.

If you’re to hire a professional you’ll have to consider the costs of the following services :

**The Board design** __The Assembly of prototypes * Safety Coefficient ( cause most problems happen here )__ **The Firmware development and testing** **Support ?** **Shipping of everything**

Now , these costs may vary a lot from country to country , from the freelancer’s experience / degrees etc…

Goodluck with your project
