ESP32-WROOM Thing Pluc C Power Supply options +

I’m curious if there is any benefit to powering the ESP 32 Thing Plus WROOM with 5V power via the USB C plug vs the Vu broken out pin? Are they effectively feeding power to the same circuit or is there an advantage to one vs. the other?

I’m also curious to know if , while running the board on battery power, I can send a high output signal from one GPIO pin to a power supply MOSFET module, that would then turn on and supply regulated 5V to the board (one way or the other) for a brief period of time, up to 10 minutes? I’m interested in doing this to avoid the 5V regulator from getting too warm when the program is idle. Also would the battery circuit recharge the LiPo while the 5V supply is on?

I messed up and fried my first Thing and don’t want to repeat the error.

USB-C is slightly more sturdy; other than that no…VU and V_USB are tied to the same circuit https://cdn.sparkfun.com/assets/5/9/7/4 … matic2.pdf

Note that the regulator would get most hot when pushing thew most power through…so powering the board and charging it simultaneously works, but defeats the stated purpose (avoid heat)…but creating that circuit is certainly possible.

Might be easier to just have it run off USB, or a much larger battery?

Thanks. Trying to tie it into a boat’s 12 V supply and use a Qwiic relay to sound the boat’s horn using a phone app. Might find a better voltage regulator module or power supply other than my simple one that doesn’t tend to heat up as much.

Max voltage for vusb is 6 volts, you will need a second voltage regular to drop 12 volts down to 5 before feeding power to the board.

The link below will work for that.

Not sure if any of the above will work but thought I’d give it a go.

Forgot to add ground between battery and USB GND.
