Failure of Olimex AVR-JTAG-L

Recently purchased AVR-JTAG-L. We have been using it fine for about 2 weeks. Today, I programmed the device a couple of times while debugging (run, edit code, compile, program) and one time the programmer was no longer detected in AVRstudio4. Have tried on two different computers, the serial ports are working, the project is running as other outputs are correct (so I know that the ATmega128 in our project is fine). The light on the programmer comes on with the power, but is not detected. The JTAG pins in the project are dedicated and there were no software crashes while programming.

Is there some way that the device could have become corrupted? If so, is there a way that it can be reprogrammed?

Thanks for the help

I am unaware of what might cause a problem like this. Olimex is really the only ones to answer this question and unfortunately they are out on vacation through the month on August.

I think we all need to move to Eastern europe. I need a good month of vacation as well…

AVR-JTAG have M16 inside, this is normal AVR uC and all precautions for work with static sensitive devices must apply.

the reason for the malfuncion may be static electricity, short in the target circuit during the work, overvoltage, etc etc

read on our web how manually to activate thr bootloader inside AVR-JTAG and see if M16 inside works or is damaged
