If I may make a suggestion, you should have the ability to upload files in the forum. This way people can share source code, applications and completed projects.
File attachments will probably not be allowed any time soon because of past bandwidth and abuse issues. You are allowed to link to files outside of Sparkfun so if you host them yourself, there will not be any issues.
