I went to the one in Milwaukee on saturday; it was alright.
It was unfortunate that they’d picked a challenge that was virtually impossible for a robot to do on its own; the autonomous period mainly consisted of robots just sitting around doing nothing, or speeding across the field and doing nothing. It made it a lot more of a “robot controlling” competition than a “robot programming” challenge.
That said, there were a few really impressive designs, and it’s amazing that a bunch of high-school kids built these things in a few weeks.
