Gasoline Flow Sensor

Hey friends!

Had a (hopefully) quick question. I wanted a simple gasoline flow sensor (so a liquid flow sensor rated for use with gasoline, I think) for a boat project some friends and I are working on. I wanted to make a digital fuel usage/milage/range meter for our boat and this gasoline fuel meter would be a crucial component.

That said, searching around sparkfun, digikey, and mouser, I haven’t had any luck finding such a sensor. When I google it, I find a package like this that’s a whole computer: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/fuel-flow-meter. But it’s priced too high to get it just for the sensor (and I’d rather just write the computer portion on Arduino anyways).

Has anybody worked on a similar project and found a fuel flow sensor?

I have customers using my flow measuring devices for gasoline and diesel, and all their sensors are in the upper $xxx range. Some of those inexpensive sensors are rated for oil, but I haven’t seen any rated for gasoline. Note that it’s both a compatibility problem (gasoline can attack the material) and a possible safety problem.
