I have recently come across the new RFM22 wireless transceivers that SparkFun is selling. However, given my awful experiences with the older rf links links, I want to ask a few questions about it.

How easy is it to get data across the link? Can I just load data into it’s buffer and send it without worrying about DC component, noise, etc?

Can these modules be configured to run at 900 Mhz, or is that controlled in it’s hardware? If so, can I use one of these 900 Mhz yagi antennae? http://www.l-com.com/productfamily.aspx?id=6677
I would like to use directional antennae because I need a data link from my computer to the shed in the backyard. The distance is about 200ft, but there are many walls in the way.
Any help would be appreciated.

Want simple, for 2.4GHz or 900MHz?
Spend a little more and get Digi XBee (sold by SFE and others).
Spend some time reading docs and forums, ask how-to.
Then it is just about plug and play like your first dial up modem.
Buy a cheap bare-bones data radio module/chip: off to communications protocol and waveform learn/design/code/test land. Which is fine if that’s your goal.
For 200 ft. through drywalls and one exterior wall, 2.4GHz XBee Pro will likely work with just the stubby wire antenna they offer. Or buy the modules with the u.fl connector and use some rubber-ducky antennas.
