Getting started with xbees

Hi,

Please I need some help to get started with the XBee wireless radios. I have two XBee pro 900 connected to XBee explorer boards, which came with a Mikrokopter. I have connected one to the USB of my laptop and installed X-CTU on windows 7. The other one is connected to the Kopter. I was following a tutorial on the net, and I was able to Test/Query earlier on, using the USB Serial port connection. The result was “Communication with modem OK. Modem type=Name unknown (ID=272883) Modem firmware version = 8144”. I dont know what happened thereafter, now when I Test/Query in X-CTU I get the message, “Unable to communicate with modem”.

Please anybody got experience with using the XBees for UAVs? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Inno.

Have you read the newbie guides/FAQs here?

You might consider getting “Wireless Sensor Networks” by Robert Faludi. Specifically written for Series 2 XBees though, so if you’re using Series 1, it won’t be of much help. Or at least, very little.

I dont know what happened

X-CTU wont work with windows 7 64 bit. The application might but the drivers don’t.

Migs

I’d think that XCTU on 64bit win7 would work using a standard windows serial port driver for a real UART serial port, and a USB to serial.

I’ve not seen any XCTU-specific drivers for XP, or w7 32 bit

The layout of the data-window on the rangetest tab gets a bit corrupted when you run it in Aero Themes. But other than that XCTU works perfectly on my end. (W7 Ulti x64)
