I’m looking to buy a SparkFun RTK Facet. We already own two of these and are very happy with them. I just saw that there are new products, and I’m wondering if the SparkFun Facet is still the best option for my needs.
I’m looking for:
An easy-to-use antenna/system to work with an Android tablet/cell phone using Field Maps.
Bluetooth connection.
Precision to the centimeter (around 50 cm is acceptable).
A solution that doesn’t require installing a base station, doing post-process corrections, installing extra software, or a subscription.
Please note that there is no cell signal or GNSS base station in the work area.
Cm precision won’t be possible without a real-time correction source.
There are workarounds such as StarLink internet service for NTRIP corrections, or the free HAS correction which is delivered to your receiver over-the-air on the E6 band.
50 cm is possible with HAS, but that is still optimistic in the real-time context.
Note: The Facet uses the F9P, which isn’t compatible with HAS.
You might take a look at the new TX2, which uses the LG290P and can benefit from HAS/E6.
If you do need 1cm precision, a Starlink Mini (or other form of sat communication) will be required plus a correction service given the details/requirements of your post (no cell, no post processing, no base, etc).
