GPS "retrofit old cell phones"

I would like someone to tell me if it would be fee-sable to take these old cell phones that we throw away by the bushel baskets and modify them to send their gps coordinate like they do when you call 911. Could you call the phone and have it give up its location so you could use it to track a family car or the likes? I am sure someone has already done this.

Yes, it is absolutely possible to do this. I do this with old Nextel phones activating them with Boost pre-paid SIMs and loading them with my software. You can see an example on my site http://wherephone.com
