gps wildlife tracker

I’m wondering if anyone has any experience building a gps wildlife tracker. The requirement are tracking for a minimum of 24 hours, although longer would be better, and the location needs to be broadcastable. I’ve seen tutorials to log gps data onto a memory card (http://blog.bobcravens.com/2010/08/crea … e-arduino/) , and I’ve seen tutorials to send real-time coordinates via sms on demand (http://www.cutedigi.com/forum/viewtopic … 5750#p5750) , but not combined.

Alternatively, a tracker that simply broadcast the coordinates via sms or gsm would also be great, but of course I’m guessing more complicated…

any ideas?

hi,

i’ve designed both tiny loggers and sms-on-demand devices.

Do you have specific questions?

cheers,

e

yeah I guess I’m wondering if you basically recommend following those tutorials, or what, especially in terms of combining the two functions…as it is right now I’m leaning towards just buying some products from these guys: http://www.pawtrax.co.uk/main/news-section-2/buy

it seems like the components from the arduino tutorials in OP cost nearly as much or more as the pawtrax data loggers and sms tracker…

I’m not familiar with the pawtrax products, but they look good, and certainly not too pricey.

Hi, just noticed a mention of PawTrax on the forum
