Help picking components for a simple RF device

Hey, I’ve started a small project but find myself a bit overwhelmed with all the possible choices I’m faced with when building a simple RF device. I would appreciate any help at all

My requirements are rather modest:

  1. Range of 30-50m.

  2. As small as possible, leaving me with a requirement of modest power consumption as there’s no room for a large battery.

  3. Like a garage door opener I just need to send two distinct signals. Should support bursts of 10 transmissions per second, but will have an avg transmission rate of 1 event per minute or so.

  4. Battery life of no less than 10 hours.

The device with the above specs needs to communicate with a base station connected to a computer through an USB interface.

While I think the Zigbee chips looks interesting, they seem to be a lot more advanced than what I require and cutting costs and power usage is always good!

Yes, ZigBee is too much more than you need.
