Help Please! AVR PG-2B Wont Recognize Key Counter

I have the dongle attached to my printer port and to my key counter. Connect the MINIDIN cable up and the power light goes on. When I try to program, however, with programmers notepad I receive the following output:

“make.exe” program

avrdude -p atmega168 -P lpt1 -c stk200 -U flash:w:Key-Counter-v11.hex

avrdude: AVR device not responding

avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1

Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override

this check.

avrdude done. Thank you.

make.exe: *** [program] Error 1

Process Exit Code: 2

Time Taken: 00:00

EDIT: The new PonyProg seems to recognize the dongle since I enabled my parallel port in BIOS. But I still have this above error when I try to program. Ponyprog gives a similar message.

This is my first time trying to get this stuff working so a good description of where I might be going wrong or misunderstanding something would help me a lot. Thanks in advance!

PS. Should I wash my hands of this dongle business and buy a dragon?

I disconnected it so I could take clearer pictures. When I actually attempt to program, I have the Minidin, keyboard, and dongle cables all connected (the power light on the key counter is on). I have no other cables connected because I’m under the impression that the DIN supplies the power that the dongle needs to program the counter.

Here is from the other side:

I hope I did something pretty obvious and someone can help.
