Help Please - MX500 Navigator Magnetometer System

Hi all, I have recently purchased a very old " MX500 Navigator Magnetometer System" it consists of an underwater fish attached to a cable that goes into a base unit, I have searched the internet for some instructions of how to use the system, no joy apparently the manufacture is no longer in business, would anyone have an instruction manual for this? If not could you explain what the unit does, on the left we have field deviation from 0 to + or -(minus) 50, the top of the display has longitude the right hand side has latitude, then you have the 4 arrow buttons (up, down, left, right) and also a power and enter button.

On the back of the display unit are 4 plugs ( navigator, printer, power, probe) I’ve worked out that you put 12v power into the power plug, I have a lead that goes into the navigator plug but the lead is cut so not sure what goes on the end of this? the printer presumably goes to a printout of what you are surveying for future examination. The probe plug takes the lead from the fish.

So if anyone can help it would be very much appreciated.

Hi, thanks for writing in.

I don’t think SparkFun has specifically worked with this product before so I doubt anyone here can assist officially. That equipment seems super interesting and it is a bummer that you cannot find any resources on the web.

It looks like the manufacturer was PLANET ELECTRONICS LTD. It also seems like Hydro international may have acquired them? Have you tried reaching out to them?

I wish you luck!

Thanks so much for the info, I didn’t know that Hydro international acquired the business, now I have something to go on, much appreciated.
