I’ve been reading about the Scott Bezek’s SmartKnob project after coming across the Brushless Gimbal Stabilizer Motor here: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/20441. The motor and use of a magnetometer for encoding seems really good for another project I’m working on needs encoder feedback on an un-geared motor.
I’m having trouble figuring out if there’s a good electronic speed controller for this application that would be easily compatible with an Arduino, maybe even using the Qwiic connector. It seems like most ESCs are for stronger motors and aren’t easily used with Arduino, while the one Scott uses is just in microchip form. The end goal of this project is to have a classroom build it so microchip soldering isn’t ideal.
Ideas or suggestions are welcomed! This is an ongoing search for good motor/encoder options!
