Home made radio Reciever... AM or FM?

Hello guys! I’m worknig for a new project… actually is a birthday present for a friend of mine…

As always please excuse my English… If I’m not wrong what I want to make is an “intercomunicator” (or something like that)… The idea is to build a device like a radio transmitter/receiver, so 2 people can talk to each other. The idea is to use it when traveling on a motorbike.

Well the problem is that I don’t know if I should use an AM or FM transmitter/receiver… Range is not a problem (50/100mts would be ok… or more) I want to power it with some battery (I preffer 1.5v or 3v but it could also be 9v. The problem with 9v-batteries is the mAh of them)

And above all, I don’t want (if possible) to mess around with inductor so I’d like the oscillator to be made of a cristal (or some easy PCB coil)

What I’m looking for is circuit schematic for the transmitter and the receiver… I guess they would be FM… but I don’t know wich one (AM or FM) is the best choice for my project.

Take a look at this circuit (click on green font to see the schematics): http://www.electronic-circuits-diagrams … ckt8.shtml

It says it would be working at 96.3Mhz… and the antenna could be an aerial of 1/4th wavelength (I guess lambda/4 of 96.3Mhz at speed of light, right?)

And is there an easy way to build a FM receiver without using any IC?

Thanks in advance!!! I would be very happy if I can sourprise my friend!

Check the regulations in your country. What you are doing is probably illegal.

Topic says “receiver” but goal seems to be transmitter.

You cannot transmit audio by comercial FM band (80-108Mhz). In Spain, it’s legal if you transmit up to 70mW.

You should use the amateur radio band (144 y 146 MHz) at low power, but if you want more you will must get a radio licence.

Suerte

And in most of the world, it is NOT legal to transmit in the amateur radio bands without a license. It’s not too hard to get a ham license, however.
