Hot Plate Reflowing

Hello,

I’m planning to do some smd soldering with the Hot Plate Reflowing technique and bought a hot plate for it.

Now my problem is, I measured the voltage between the hot plate (metal plate that gets hot) and me, and I got about 40 volts.

Isn’t that very bad for the electronics?

Maybe its not a problem, or maybe I got a bad hot plate…

You don’t say exactly how you measured this voltage, and under what conditions, so it’s hard to say. The human body can sometimes have thousands of volts on it due to static electricity, but it doesn’t sound like this is what you’re talking about.

Measure the resistance between the ground pin on the power plug and something metal on the hotplate (I’m assuming that it has a ground pin). The resistance should be less than an ohm for grounded appliances.
