How to get Olimex MSP430-JTAG-ISO to work with IAR 3.41a?

After carefully following the instructions below, we got the following message when attempting to open an existing workspace containing a simple program that downloads and runs without problems using the ez430 emulator:

Runtime Error!
Program: …R\ Systems\Embedded Workbench 4.0\common\bin\IarPm.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application’s support team for more information
.

Any suggestions as to how to get the OLIMEX MSP430-JTAG-ISO to work with IAR (Help About indicates we’re using version 3.41a) would be greatly appreciated.

I guess were having a fun now, or perhaps we’re even having multiple funs simultaneously.

What’s new in firmware 1.011:

  • all new MSP430 devices released by Texas Instruments to October 2006 are now supported

Brief installation notes:

  1. For new users which install drivers for very first time:

plug your USB cable to MSP430-JTAG-TINY or MSP430-JTAG-ISO

when Windows ask you for drivers, browse to the directory where you unpacked 1.010\Drivers

copy and replace all DLLs to your IDE working directory (it’s not bad to make backup copy of the original DLLs you have)

for Embedded Workbench this directory is …430\bin

Note: in some cases for MSP430-JTAG-TINY Windows will report that it can’t find drivers for the USB device, in this case you have to run PreInstaller.exe and to re-boot your computer then try again. This is not necessary for MSP430-JTAG-ISO.

  1. For old users just replace the old DLLs with the new ones

have a fun!

Olimex

08.11.2006

I use TI EZ430 with my target hardware.

I recently bought MSP430 JTAG ISO from Olimex since it claims that it can program the security fuse. But I could not succeed in using it in SBW mode. I made the following connections;

MSP430-JTAG-ISO pin-1(TDO/TDI) <—> Target Board (SBWTDIO)

MSP430-JTAG-ISO pin-7 (TCK) <—> Target Board (SBWTCK)

MSP430-JTAG-ISO pin-9 (GND) <—> Target Board (GND)

MSP430-JTAG-ISO pin-2 (VCC-Tool) <—> Target Board (VCC)

I use IAR kickstart V3.41A. The target processor is MSP430F2012.

I will highly appreciate any help.

I will also be happy to receive any note if anyone used MSP430 JTAG ISO with security fuse programming.

Best Regards,
