Inductor question...

I have been playing with making simple FM transmitter/receivers. I had a question about the inductors though…

I’ve seen some fixed value inductor assortments on ebay. Is it possible to substitute the homemade air coil inductors for fixed value inductors like these? is there any advantage of one over the other?

I would like to avoid having to coil my own for every project…

A lot of diy transmitter circuits take advantage of the fact that you can trim the value of a homemade inductor by spreading/compressing the windings a little.

You could also ask on sci.electronics.misc or rec.radio.amateur.homebrew if you have access to those…
