Intermittent spurious rain data

I’m using a Sparkfun Weather Sheild on an Arduino Uno connected to the Sparkfun weather meters. While watching the data packets, I’m noticing rain data increasing in sunny weather! Where could this be coming from? Any ideas?

RFI could be a possible culprit but vibration or something knocking into the rain sensor can cause it to trip as well. Make sure everything is mounted securely and nothing is bumping into the rain sensor.

If that doesn’t work, you might try adding a ferrite bead around the cable where it connects to the Weather Shield to tamp down any interference that might be causing false positive reads from the rain sensor.

Did the ferrite bead end up working for you? I have the same trouble.

Thanks!

The rain sensor is nothing really advanced; but it is very susceptible to movement (e.g. shaking). If the rain “bucket” is not secured and allowed to move (sway, etc) it will pick up random counts.
