iPhone/iPad USB adapter to Arduino

Before I mess with the real thing, has anyone successfully stripped an iPhone USB cable to expose the Tx and Rx lines and plugged them into an arduino Uno? By that I mean keep the apple dock end and cut and splay the wires on the USB end.

As far as I’m aware, the iPhone cables only carry power, ground and USB D+/D-. If you want the serial lines, you will have to get a connector (I think they sell them at sparkfun), and wire them yourself.
