Is there oil on the water?

Hi guys,

I want to measure if there is oil on water. Which sensor can I use for this?

Thanks,

Marijn

Done your homework? What do professionals use?

There are expensive equipment available but out of our budget. I was thinking about measuring the conductivity but I can’t find sensors for it which aren’t 200 dollar+

You have any idea?

You haven’t provided enough information for anyone to make a recommendation.

How much oil do you think will be “on the water” – a film a few molecules thick, or 1 cm?

What type of water? Open ocean, lakes, streams, tap water, down in a well?

Will the water be tested in a small container in the lab, or out in the open?

Measure the amount of refraction.

Optics.

But find out how the professional/product systems do it. Then try to DIY.

Don’t start with first principles!
