JTAG compatibility question / coldfire

This isn’t the “coldfire” forum, but I had problems posting in there because. . .well, it doesn’t exist :frowning:

I’m really in need of a programmer that can work with the freescale coldfire chips. It supports both JTAG and BDM (although there’s no debugging through jtag) interfaces for programming.

There are no DIY BDM projects I’ve seen that I’m capable of doing (there’s only one with very limited documentation that requires programming cplds, which I also don’t have tools to program!) The cheapest commercial project product I’ve seen for BDM is about $250, which is way more than I’m willing to pay.

There’s still the JTAG interface, of course. Since this is a standard interface and usually the interface used for programming during production, I’m hoping that it’s possible to program the coldfire using the ARM JTAG interface on sparkfun. Does anyone think it’ll work, or does anyone know any better reasonably priced ways to work with the coldfire series of ICs?

Thank you SOOOOOOOO much for your help; I’ve probably already looked at every corner of the Internet for info on this!

AHA!

What a coincidence, I finally found the solution a couple minutes later!

This is a BDM cable for the coldfire platform that costs <$10. It definitely opens up the coldfire platform for DIY (strangely enough, I’m probably one of the very few people who have found it since it’s been posted on the freescale forums about a year ago)

I guess it might be time for a new coldfire forum at sparkfun, or a couple of new product releases =)
